Drug policy activist Matthew Elrod provides a brief history of what he explains as the racist origins of drug prohibition and discusses the modern day impact of the "war on drugs" on the civil liberties of both drug users and abstainers in Canada.

Matthew Elrod is a drug policy reform activist living in Victoria, B.C. For over ten years, Matt has provided research, web design, programming and technical support to dozens of drug policy reform organizations including The Canadian Media Awareness Project; the British Columbia Compassion Club Society; the Canadian Cannabis Coalition; the Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy and the Vancouver Island Compassion Society.
